Bigger, Faster and Stronger

CHICAGO (July 24, 2015) After yesterday’s dismissal of Jurgen Klinsmann following the USMNT 2-1 loss to Jamaica in the Gold Cup semifinals. US Soccer President Sunil Gulati wasted no time in naming a replacement with Sam Allardyce being appointed head coach of the USMNT today, making him the 36th coach in the history of the program.

US Soccer is very excited to have Big Sam as the head coach of our Men’s National Team, said Gulati. He was a highly accomplished defender and is a coach with Premier League experience that can advance our program. I am over the moon to be named the head coach of the USMNT said Allardyce. I would like to thank the U.S. Soccer Federation for the opportunity, and I’m excited about the challenge ahead.

Gulati explained that Allardyce brings a system that should mesh well with the US Soccer player pool. “Sam’s long ball system will put more emphasis on physicality and athleticism while deemphasizing skill. This will be a bigger, faster and stronger era for US Soccer.

To kick start this new vision and to bridge the US Soccer talent gap, Allardyce has agreed to reach-out to American stars of the four major sports to gauge their interest in becoming a part of the US Soccer set-up. A joint meeting will take place between Allardyce and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman to identify the top athletes in each of their sports to participate in an athlete’s camp to be held by Allardyce at the beginning of August. “This athlete’s camp is the kind of out of the box thinking that US Soccer needs to make an impact on a global level”, declared MLS commissioner Don Garber.
